The IILA-FOTOGRAFIA Prize, now in its eighth edition, is a specialist event for emerging Latin American photographers and an important opportunity for many young artists. It is organised by IILA – Italo-Latin American Institute, institute member countries, FOTOGRAFIA – International Festival of Rome, visiva, Officine International and RUFA – Rome University of Fine Arts. The photographers from IILA member countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Dominican Republic, Uruguay and Venezuela) have each worked on the theme of “The Present” with distinct cultural and environmental approaches.
The high quality of the selected work only confirms photography is the ideal artistic discipline for observing and defining the present day. The exhibited pieces will include: work by winner Luis Carlos Tovar (Colombia), Hugo Vásquez (Peru) who received an Honourable Mention and other selected artists Estefanía Landesmann (Argentina), Dolores Medel (Mexico) and Coni Rosman (Argentina). Winner Luis Carlos Tovar will complete a month-long artist’s residence in Rome during which he will work on a project about the city to be exhibited in next year’s edition, with technical support and teaching from RUFA. The project Lucubration, by last year’s winner Rodrigo Illescas (Argentina), is the final piece in the exhibition.
